Our Home Entertainment report from NYC

We interviewed many of the editors from Stereophile and Home Entertainment magazine on Acoustics.

The home entertainment show was a great success for Rives Audio. We exhibited with Innersound in their multi-channel room where they had a great display including playback of quadraphonic classical master tapes!! The PARC was a very nice addition to this room and we were happy to support their efforts.

Rives Audio also donated a Level 1 to the Elf Foundation. It was auctioned off at the Medeski, Martin and Wood concert. The proceeds will go to Elf to build more rooms of magic for hospitalized children. To learn more about the Elf Foundation go here.

Lastly, Rives interviewed many of the editors of Stereophile and Home Theater magazine, including the editors in chief of both publications. See what the experts say about the importance of acoustics and some great tips to getting started in room acoustics.

Part 2

This is the second month where we can share what I listen to. This part is about imaging. When we talk about imaging we want to have a clear delineation of the location of the instruments. Some recordings do a marvelous job of this and can be used as test tracks when auditioning new equipment or making other changes in the room and system.

1. Sara K., Water Falls on the Stockfish label. Really fabulous the whole recording and the imaging of her voice and the guitar are terrific.

2. Eduardo Eguez, the Lute Music of Johann Sebastian Bach volume II on M*A recordings. Single instrument, but an incredible sense of space around it.

3. Three Blind Mice, the Famous Sound of the Three Blind Mice on XRCD. Terrific jazz and great spatial imaging.

Note: Some people wonder why no classical is listed in this section. I find classical is not good for imaging, but rather soundstage, expanse and dynamics from micro to macro. Perhaps we'll discuss this next month.
