If so, think about room designs very early. Do this for 2 reasons. One is you want them complete to get good quotes from the contractor well in advance and second, early in the design phases it's usually easy to change dimensions of rooms slightly to optimize the performance of the room.
Many people don't know that room dimensions are one of the biggest issues to getting either great or horrible sound in a room. And unlike many of the other things that can be redone, changing room dimensions is usually impractical, if not impossible. People often ask us, when should we get Rives Audio involved in our project, and the answer is always the sooner the better.

Do you like DIY acoustical projects?
You might think that because we design listening rooms we would not want to help those that want to do it themselves. Wrong. We believe that a little DIY in acoustics can go a long way. Over time you will realize how important acoustics can be, and maybe someday you will want us to design your dream theater or listening room. But even if you don't hire us, you will appreciate how much better your sound can be with good acoustics.
We've developed a whole section of resources to help you. Everything from books, to web articles, to companies that carry products or other tools that can help. We even have a room simulator that you can freely use to see what happens with different speaker and listening positions.
The one thing we will advise you if you are going to do it yourself is use these resources. Read and learn as much as you can. It will pay off in a big way when you go about improving the acoustics in your room.
