Many of us have a series of favorite tracks we regularly use for demonstration or evaluation, and I'm no different. This is the second of a 6 part series of demonstration tracks. This month features classical cuts.
Copeland "Fanfare for the common man" Reference recordings, Eiji Oue & the Minnisota Orchestra. Big full sympony.
Dvorak "Cello Concerto" Living Stereo. Beautiful forward cello with surrounding symphony. The cello seems a little larger than life.
Dukas "The Sorcer's Apprentice" Another Reference Recording with the Minnisota Orchestra. The album is Mephisto and Co.
Rimsky Korsakov "Sherezade" Living stereo reissue and it's outstanding. I recommend the vinyl 45 if you can get a hold of it.
Eberhard Webber "Concerto for Double Bass" This will expose any non-linearities in a crossover very quickly (between bass and mid driver). There are smooth transitions from the double bass that will not sound smooth on a poor crossover.
So this is the short track list for great classical cuts. With the exception of the last recommendation, these are full scale orchestras. They should sound expansive and that can be a challenge for many systems.
Enjoy.
