Why Rives Audio?

I've had people ask, "Why Rives Audio designs when there are some acoustical companies out there that offer design services for less, sometimes free?"

Well, this may be a good example of "you get what you pay for." Why would someone offer a design service very inexpensively or for free? It's to sell their products of course.

At Rives Audio we do not sell any acoustical treatment products. We sell only our design services. We have no incentive to fill up the wall with Widget X from Manufacturer Z. Some of our designs do use prefabricated treatment, some have all custom integrated and built on site acoustical devices. Our goal is to design the best room for each client within their budget and space constraints. That's different for every client, thus every design is custom tailored to their needs. And with design packages starting at only $1200, you may likely save in purchased products.

There's no question about it, Rives offers exceptional value when you decide to design your listening or media room.

What do you listen to?

Part 31:
Test tracks, part 1: Dynamics

Many of us have a series of favorite tracks we regularly use for demonstration or evaluation, and I'm no different. In the upcoming 6 issues I will share various areas that I listen to, why I listen to them, and give you a list of tracks associated with that particular area. Keep in mind these are individual song titles--not albums.

This month focuses on dynamics and bottom end.

Yuri Honig Trio "Walking on the Moon" The drum rim shots in the beginning are very impressive.

Dead Can Dance "Yugula" Probably not the most dynamic, but still a good test of overall depth.

Yello "Tiger Dust" Very heavy beat, very dynamic. Many systems cannot handle this track.

Thomas Newman "American Beauty" Very deep bass and haunting upper midrange at the same time. Some systems will muddy the upper midrange while trying to do the low bass notes.

Bella Fleck "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" This track is fun, great low bass and Bella's banjo.

Mickey Hart "Gates of Dafos" Very serious drums and dynamics.

So this is the short track list for great dynamics and deep bass. The big test is if a system can handle the low bass while at the same time have finesse in the upper octaves. A real challenge.

Enjoy.
