Just in time for Valentine's Day--How could I resist?
Benny Wallace: "The Old Song" on Audioquest LP. This is a great album and terrific Love Songs. Nothing like great sax for Valentine's.
Madeleine Peyroux: "Careless Love" on Mobile Fidelity LP. Well, isn't Valentines sometimes just that--careless love? But this is a great album. She's wonderfully talented and this album sounds very fresh and new.
Jacintha: "Lush Life" on Groove Note LP. Her voice is so sultry I'm not sure it needs to even be about love--it would sound like it was. This does happen to be one of my favorite albums by here, and it does have the "love" theme throughout.
Frank Sinatra: --oh just get the box set. How can you narrow this down to one album? From "Swing Easy/Songs for Young Lovers" to "Sinatra Sings of Love and Things" And can you forget "Come Dance with Me". I don't know which one to pick--so I did literally just get the box set.
And I feel you must have one classical work in a list like this. But what? I could do just a classical list for works of love. Beethoven? perhaps. Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet. That's great--but everyone dies, so not terribly uplifting. So here is my one choice:
Debussey: "Clair de Lune" Even the title is romantic. The harp, the strings, it is empowered emotion througout. It also happens to be my girlfriend's favorite classical work--so it gets the prize.
Hope you have a great Valentine's day. I'm looking forward to next month--spring and get rid of all this snow.
Enjoy.
