Sound Isolation

Rives Audio has written a number of articles on sound isolation and noise control. This has become an increasingly important part of our business. But beware, it's tricky business. There are so many potential caveats to getting noise control right. All you need to do is miss one important aspect and the noise control will not work.

The other important thing to consider is how much sound isolation do you need and at what cost? Not just monetary cost, but sound isolation techniques can actually degrade sound quality. One technique commonly used is high mass separate stud walls, but this builds a very rigid wall that does not allow sound to penetrate. The result is good sound isolation, but at the expense of greater room peaks and nulls from room modes. Sometimes a little leakage or a diaphramatic wall can be a good thing.

Take the Rives Audio Guided tour and find out just how easy and affordable it is to get your room designed RIGHT!

What do you listen to?

Part 26:
Depression Era Jazz.

I think it's safe to say, history does repeat. Our economy is horrible, but we will get out of this. Remember, it was worse back then. These recordings are from greats that came from that era, though the recordings were done after this depressed period.

Count Basie - '88 Basie Street. If you can get the 45 RPM vinyl I highly recommend it.

Duke Ellington - Blues in orbit is still my favorite, but I've recommended it before. Let's go with Jazz party in stereo. This swinging start will make anyone happy.

Coleman Hawkins - Another very difficult one to pick out just one, but let's take Good Old Broadway which many pieces were directly out of the depression era. Again, the 45 RPM vinyl is superb.

Enjoy.
