Okay given what the stock market did for the month of October, I thought the blues would be appropriate for this month's listening.
1.Muddy Waters - Folk Singer. It's hard not to put this in any great Blues list. It really captures Muddy Waters feeling in a live recording that rivals the sound quality of many studio recordings. There are many remasters of this out there. I personally like the Classic Records the best.
2. Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, Back to Acoustics. Another acoustical blues album. I personally like the acoustic blues. It just seems to capture the essence of the blues better--at least for me.
3. John Lee Hooker - That's my Story on Analog Productions 45 RPM reissue. It was hard to pick which John Lee Hooker album. So many are so good, but this is the one I decided on both for the material and the technical expertise of the remastered version.
4. Eric Bibb - Painting Signs. This is an import LP that is also technically very good. I've always liked Bibb's music and earlier recording son the Opus label are very good as well. If you haven't heard Eric Bibb, you should. It's almost a cross between a folk and blues--more blues than folk, but really great listening. I think I might go listen to it now.
Okay, I've tried to cover 4 of my favorites in different genres. One more that I'll mention in passing--it's not exactly blues, but it has blues in the title and is one of my favorite all time albums. Duke Ellington - Blues in Orbit.
Lastly, I want to leave you with some humor on the blues. Click here to download a file on "Defining the Blues."
Hope you enjoy.
