Next Show:
CEDIA EXPO
Indianapolis September 9-11.
Rives Audio will be at CEDIA again this year in booth number 24. Rives Audio currently has over 60 dealers domestically and a growing international distribution in Europe and Asia, most of which are CEDIA dealers. Thus, CEDIA has now become one of the most important shows for Rives Audio.
If you aren't familiar with CEDIA this is a show and series of courses for the custom installer. Our custom installers now use Rives Audio as a standard in integrating great sound and aesthetically pleasing designs into the home theater or media room.
If you are planning to be at CEDIA, please come visit us.
Also at CEDIA this year will be a very dramatic demonstration of 2 home theaters, identical in terms of equipment. However, one room will be treated and properly calibrated while the other will represent a "typical" set up. The sonic difference in the two rooms will surprise most, even very experienced dealers and clients. This is being presented by the Acoustics Guild and will be held in two identical rooms in the Marriott hotel across from the convention center.

We continue to grow our resources for people interested in acoustics. Our resource pages have articles, DIY examples, source material, books, and just about anything we can find that would help people on acoustics. Our last article was on the design process. This not only describes the process that you would go through with Rives Audio, but also describes the process in general. Whether you are working with Rives or another group, there are certain steps and aspects that must be considered. This article will let you know what to expect and how to best prepare and carefully consider what decisions you will have to make through the process. Designing a media room is a real commitment. I often use a kitchen as an analogy. You want certain things in certain places so that the kitchen is ergonomically correct and useful. For example you wouldn't want the dishwasher on the opposite side of the kitchen as the sink. This lastest article should assist anyone in designing a new media room or remodelling an existing one.

In the August Issue of Stereophile I was interviewed on acoustics by John Marks. In this article I discussed that I regularly play piano and take lessons from an extrordinary jazz pianist, Dan Knight.
Not only is Dan Knight an incredible pianist, he's a remarkable person. I can tell you it's fascinating to watch a musician whose instrument has more or less become an extension of himself. His knowledge of jazz and stories of working with some of the greats are fantastic. And when a person like Sonny Rollins exclaims: "Man you are great." Well that is high praise, indeed.
All of Dan's CDs are listed on his website and you can order them on a secure weblink there.
Next month we'll get back to some more recommended recordings. In the meantime, I highly recommend his work and there are some audio clips there too, so you can listen and see if you agree.
